Groundbreaking for Sertoma Union Avenue Apartments

November 16, 2020Supportive

Todd recently attended the groundbreaking ceremony for Union Avenue Apartments, a new development in Orland Park, Illinois, developed by Sertoma Centre. The new building will provide permanent supportive housing for people with disabilities. The apartment-style complex will consist of 13 one-bedroom and three two-bedroom units, each with its own kitchen, bathroom and living space. The building will include indoor amenities, such as a community, library, computer room, communal living room, and activity room, in addition to a community outdoor patio, laundry room, secure entry and on-site support services from Sertoma Centre. The intention of the project is to allow adults with disabilities to live independently while receiving personal support through Sertoma’s programs. Residents may receive social support and counseling, job training and placement, and assistance with grocery shopping and bill management.

The development’s Union Avenue location offers convenient access to Orland Park stores, a pharmacy, restaurants, parks, recreation facilities, public transportation, and a library.

Also in attendance at the groundbreaking were Sertoma executive director Gus van den Brink, Anne Kearns and Chrissy Swanson of Brush Hill, Orland Park Trustee Michael Milani and other village staff, Housing Authority of Cook County executive director Richard Monnochio, state Rep. Fran Hurley, state Senator Bill Cunningham, and Synergy Construction. Main funding for the project was received through a Permanent Supportive Housing grant from IHDA.
