Senior Housing, Supportive, Healthcare
Silver Birch of Kokomo is a four-story Residential Care Facility for seniors, with 119 individual studio and one-bedroom units. The project is located in central Kokomo with Wildcat Creek to the north and the Industrial Heritage Trail on the east. The site design aims to take advantage both of the views and connectivity to these amenities, as well as downtown just on the other site of the creek.
The building program includes a full spectrum of personalized services to help older adults maintain their independence in a supportive and caring environment, and is designed to serve seniors of all financial means. Community spaces such as a game room, bistro, and theater are designed to support these programs and accommodate a variety of activities, dining, and entertainment. The building also has an in-house beauty salon and barber shop, and a fully-accessible fitness room and onsite physical therapy site.
The exposed steel porte-cochere entry with its unique double columns speaks to Kokomo’s rich industrial past. Once inside the entry vestibule, the large lobby is framed by custom wood decorative panels, which guide the eye to the double height living room, reception and bistro area. This area is flooded by natural light thanks to large curving windows, making it a bright welcoming space for both residents and guests. This space can also be viewed from the open overlook at the second floor, giving great views of the space and the community beyond.
The common areas were placed within the building to take advantage of the expansive views towards Wildcat Creek and downtown Kokomo. The River View Room on the first floor offers direct access to a patio for prime viewing of the Creek and downtown activities. The TV Lounge on Floor 3 and the Theater just above it on Floor 4 offer even more expansive views for residents and their guests to enjoy while taking in the of building’s amenities.
