WJW visits Detroit!

Following the successful trip to the Rural Studio made by members of the WJW staff last year, a second group traveled to Detroit to explore various revitalization efforts within the city limits.

The four-day excursion included a guided walking tour of the downtown area and its many historic buildings, visits to the Michigan Urban Farming Initiative, CASS Community Services’ Tiny Homes initiative, and a meeting with IFF Detroit at the Fisher Building. We were also able to observe a bit of how artistic and community revitalization has been underway amidst a backdrop of abandoned infrastructures, with spaces such as the Heidelberg Project, the Detroit Collaborative Design Center at University of Detroit Mercy School of Architecture, and the many vibrantly painted murals throughout the city.
