Hope Manor II and community fellowship in Englewood

When Volunteers of America-Illinois first began conceptualizing the possibilities and potential of Hope Manor II, an affordable supportive housing development designed for Veterans with families, in the words of President and CEO Nancy Hughes Moyer, the fundamental focus was to create “not just a place of hope for the people that lived there but to also radiate hope for the community in which it operated.”

With most of its stores and shops closed for over a week in the Englewood neighborhood recently, this left neighbors and residents of Hope Manor II with a challenging issue of where to buy groceries and needed goods. VOA was able to respond to these needs of the community by hosting a day of service in Englewood, enabling the distribution of more than 500 large boxes of groceries and supplies such as baby food, hygiene products, etc., and clean up of more than six blocks of glass and debris around Hope Manor II.

In the midst of difficult times, the goals of Hope Manor II to provide a positive community connection and strong networks of support are more important than ever. WJW has been a proud partner with VOA on Hope Manor II along with other communities.
